Doctors

Are you a doctor looking for an opportunity to have your own practice in a well-run rural Medical Centre?  Ochre Health Medical Centres are friendly and flexible work environments. The centres are structure to allow you to succeed at what you do best – caring for patients – rather than being tied up with practice accreditation and administration tasks.  At Ochre Health Medical Centres, patient care is an exciting mix of hospital and general practice work with great back up from city specialists and the Rural Flying Doctor Service.  The only exception is at the Tea Gardens Medical Centre which offers GP work only.

Ochre Health is managed by doctors with the know-how and practical experience to make working in a rural location a better experience.

You want to earn a good income?
The doctor pays a percentage of their turnover to Ochre Health to administer the Medical Centre. In this arrangement we are your business partner and focussed to supporting your success in running a busy and rewarding medical practice. Outside the Medical Centre, Ochre Health has guaranteed payments from local hospitals for every day of cover. This means you can be confident in the amount  you will earn, whether or not you are busy at the hospital.

You want to take a holiday?
Doctors with their own medical practices at Ochre Health Medical Centres take six to eight weeks leave each year. Through Ochre Recruitment, an affiliate company, we can find a locum so you can pursue your other interests and enjoy yourself. These locums are provided at no expense to you. In Ochre’s November 2007 Doctor Survey, all our doctors rated the support from Ochre Recruitment in finding them locums as high or very high.

You want your partner to have work as well?
Ochre Health knows a happy partner is important to a doctor and will try and find work for them. While we can’t guarantee work for your partner, we have a flexible attitude and know that by helping your partner we are helping your family settle in to a new community.

You only want to work in a rural town for a limited period?
Ochre Health Medical Centre’s are set up in such a way that you can commit for as short as one year or for as long as you like. When you leave it is our responsibility to find the doctor to replace you and maintain the medical records.

You don’t want to incur set up costs?
There are no set up cost for the doctor. Often there are incentives provided by Ochre Health for you to relocate to the new location and in New South Wales you may be eligible for a Rural Doctor Network relocation grant. For full time doctors Ochre Health will provide a house (3 to 4 bedrooms) and for doctors doing hospital on- call work, a family size car is also provided.

You want to be involved in a quality service and in medical education?
All Ochre Health Medical Centre’s are accredited to the latest Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) guidelines with Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited. Ochre provides an education grant to all permanent doctors. Ochre has accredited Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Paediatric Advanced Life Support courses on location available for the doctors. Ochre assist can doctors in setting up RACGP small learning groups. In August each year, all Ochre contracted doctors (and other staff) and their families participate in a Family and Education Weekend. During the weekend, education is provided for half a day and the other time is spent with a range of social activities.

You are an Area of Need doctor?
Ochre Medical Centres have several excellent Area of Need doctors and we can support candidates for Area of Need doctor positions with a range of books and education material to assist them in meeting the Australian registration criteria. Before and after registration, Ochre provides suitably experienced doctors to provide thorough orientation to the Australian health care system and to the town that you will be living in.
