Brewarrina is a town of about 1200 people 760km North West of Sydney and can be there are flights from Sydney to Bourke and then there is a 95km drive to Brewarrina. 

Brewarrina has the largest fresh water lake in NSW called Narran Lake and has a rodeo every Easter weekend. The hospital has a home dialysis unit based at the hospital and a visiting renal physician.

There are two Medical Centres in Brewarrina, Barwon River Medical Centre and the Brewarrina Aboriginal Health Service. The doctor at the Barwon River Medical Centre works one session a week at the Brewarrina Aboriginal Health Service.

The Brewarrina Hospital roster is a general on call service for the hospital with no procedural on call. On average there are about 5 - 8 acute presentations to the on call doctor per day.

Brewarrina qualifies for an annual Medicare Retention Grant of $25,000 after 1 year (defined as 4 active quarters).

There is a furnished house set up for locums and accommodation at a local hotel.
