Boggabri is a town of about 1100 people on the Namoi River between Gunnedah and Narrabri. Boggabri is about 1 and a half hours drive west of Tamworth and 450km North West of Sydney.
Boggabri is set against the pleasant backdrop of the Nandewar Ranges. It has a colourful history with the convict escapee and bushranger George 'The Barber' Clarke living in the area in the 18th century. Recently the town is undergoing significant population growth with the opening of a new coal mine in December 2006.
The Boggabri Medical Centre is collocated at the Boggabri Multi Purpose Service and is the only Medical Centre in the town.
The Boggabri Multi Purpose Service has an on call roster for acute presentations, and averages about 2-3 per day. The number of call outs for the doctor after 11PM average about three a month.
Boggabri qualifies for an annual Medicare Retention Grant of $15,000 after 3 years (defined as 12 active quarters).
There is one motel available for locum accommodation and the health service has a house available for accommodation as well.
