Further south along the Sunshine Coast, there is the popular beachside town of Caloundra. With multiple beaches and parks to relax in, Caloundra is an ideal destination for anyone looking to escape the busy city atmosphere for quiet, laidback coastal community vibes. Take a walk or a bike ride along the well-kept Caloundra Coastal Path, a 25km track stretching between Caloundra and Kawana, visiting historic sites, headland lookouts, nature reserves, as well as cafes and shops along the way. You can also head out on a Sunday and visit the local markets, sampling fresh seafood, fruit and veg, and deli foods. The Caloundra Music Festival (held annually in October) is a must-see for anyone looking to see some of Australian music’s big names and enjoy the beachside atmosphere whilst listening to local blues, rock, and jazz bands.

For those looking to experience the breath-taking natural scenery of southern Queensland’s hinterland, the Glasshouse Mountains are an ideal location to explore the ancient landscape. The Glasshouse Mountains National Park is an area of great cultural and spiritual significance, due to its history as a site for Aboriginal ceremonies and trade – the evidence of this activity is still visible and protected in the park today. Throughout the park there are walking tracks winding through pine plantations and eucalypt forests, lookouts offering dramatic panoramic views, as well as opportunities mountaineering, abseiling, rock climbing. So pack a picnic and some sunscreen, stop in at the fascinating visitor centre to learn about the area and its rich history, and spend a day exploring and adventuring in majestic hinterland of the Sunshine Coast.
