Patient Empowered Pod (3P)

Ochre Health’s Dr Paresh Dawda and the University of Canberra have won funding from the Royal Australian Council of General Practitioners (RACGP) for a new project – A patient empowered pod that will be developed and tested at the Bruce clinic in Canberra.

The 3P pod will help gather and maintain valuable patient information that is not always communicated to the doctor such as weight, height and body mass index. The pod will provide patients with a private booth which automatically measures their weight and height. Patients will be able to enter data on their behaviours such as smoking, alcohol and physical activity.

The data, with patient consent, will be uploaded into the their medical record. The information collected is also shared with the patient on a report card, which they can share with their doctor or allied health professional.

The study evaluation will assess if patients are more motivated and engaged in improving their health via the method of using the new Pod system.
