This is a brand new medical centre developed from the complete refurbishment of the old Magpies Football Club next to Kippax Fair Shopping Centre. It features a fresh, modern design and offers the community of Belconnen excellent GPs and nurses as well as the latest equipment and facilities. It has a spacious, patient-friendly waiting area with electronic charging stations, a self-service check-in kiosk, interactive Storytime Pods for the kids and plenty of light and greenery. The centre is also co-located with a range of healthcare services including podiatry and physiotherapy.

Skin Cancer
A strong focus of the medical centre is the detection and management of skin cancer. General practitioner Dr Thinus van Rensburg is accredited by the Skin Cancer College of Australasia and a participant in the Canberra Melanoma Unit. Dr van Rensburg has treated over 2,500 skin cancers since 2006.

After Hours
If the doctors are unavailable, you may contact CALMS (Canberra After Hours Locum Medical Service) on 1300 422 567 for an alternative arrangement. CALMS in an accredited deputising medical service run by Canberra GPs (including your doctor) to provide quality AH cover all over Canberra with adequate feedback to your doctor.

Dr Thinus van Rensburg (BSc, MBChB, FRACGP, FACRRM, AFHEA, Cert Skin Cancer) – General Practitioner
Qualified in South Africa, Dr van Rensburg worked there as a GP for some years after graduating before working for two years in Mozambique. He settled in Australia in 2000 and worked in remote South Australia as a GP Obstetrician for a few years, before moving to Wagga Wagga and then on to Canberra. Dr van Rensburg then ran his own GP clinic from 2006-2018, with a strong emphasis on skin cancer medicine and minor procedures. He continues that practice with Ochre as well as focusing on teaching medical students and registrars. In his spare time, Dr van Rensburg enjoys woodwork, medical computing and martial arts.
Specialty interest area: Skin cancer screening and minor procedures.

Dr Riana Janse van Rensburg (MBChB, FRACGP, AFHEA) – General Practitioner
Dr van Rensburg completed her initial qualification at the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 1995, before gaining her Fellowship of the Australian College of General Practice in 2003. After arriving in Australia in 2000, Dr van Rensburg and her partner initially worked in rural settings, attending emergencies, nursing homes and outreach clinics. They worked in their own practice in Charnwood for 13 years before deciding to join the Ochre team. In her spare time, Dr van Rensburg enjoys various crafts.
Specialty interest area: Paediatrics, women’s health.

Dr Kotie Ras (MBChB, FRACGP) – General Practitioner
Born in South Africa, Dr Ras completed her studies at University of Pretoria, South Africa. She worked in the SANDF as uniform member from 1992 to 2003, before going to the UK to work as a GP from 2003 to 2007. She returned to South Africa in 2007 where she worked for International SOS before moving to Australia in 2008 and completing her RACGP Fellowship not long thereafter. Since arriving in Australia, Dr Ras has worked extensively as a GP as well as for both International SOS and the Australia Defence Forces. In her spare time, Dr Ras and her husband are keen birdwatchers, going far and wide in search of rare species. Keen joggers, they parkruns on Saturdays and participate in the Sydney City to Surf yearly.

Dr Chinchu Ann Varghese (MBBS, DCH, FRACGP) – General Practitioner
Dr. Ann Varghese completed her medical degree at the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala, India in 2008. After completing her Intern year in India, she  moved to Canberra in 2009 and did her Medical Resident years at The Canberra Hospital, Calvary Hospital and John James Hospital for four years. She  embarked on GP Fellowship Training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2015. As part of her GP Fellowship training, she enjoyed working in rural NSW at Goulburn, Cooma  and Yass, and was also a visiting GP at various nursing homes in these areas. She later moved to Canberra, and joined Ochre Kippax when they opened in 2018. Chinchu also holds a Diploma in Child Health from the Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney.

Chinchu has a keen interest in women’s health, adolescent female health, pre-pregnancy counselling, antenatal shared care, post-partum care, and family planning including hormonal implant insertion. As a mother of 2 young kids, Chinchu has special interest in paediatrics and providing support to the new mums. In her spare time, Chinchu is passionate about Bollywood dancing & has performed on multiple stages in Canberra.

Dr Abraham Thomas (MBBS, DCH, FRACGP) – General Practitioner
Dr Thomas completed his medical degree at Trivandrum Medical College in Kerala, India in 2002. He worked as a Medical Officer in India & later in the UK for several years. He moved to Australia in 2007, and worked in the Accidents & Emergency Unit at the Angliss Hospital in Victoria. Dr Thomas later relocated to Canberra  in 2009 and completed his Medical Resident years at The Canberra Hospital & Calvary Hospital. He completed his GP Fellowship Training with the Royal College of General Practitioners. As a GP Registrar he enjoyed working at Cooma & Yass, NSW. While working at Cooma, Dr Thomas was a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO). Dr Thomas has also completed his Diploma in Child Health with Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney. In his spare time, Abraham is a published cartoonist, a published kids book author and a sand animator who has performed on multiple stages in Canberra & Sydney.

Dr Sadia Athar (MBBS, AMC) – General Practitioner
Dr. Sadia Athar is an experienced General Practitioner in Canberra and is committed to excellence in healthcare. She believes in a personalized, collaborative and patient-centred approach in her work and is always prepared to go extra mile for her patients. Outside medicine she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, gardening and cooking.

Dr Banafsheh (Bana) Sadegh Alhoseini (MD, FRACGP) – General Practitioner
Dr Bana is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and has been practising in a rural areas in Victoria and Western Australia since 204. She completed her primary education in Iran Medical school and received experience working at different major hospitals in a variety of disciplines. One aspect of her role which she enjoys is teaching and mentoring medical students and GP registrars. In her spare time, Bana enjoys reading and cooking. She is available in Bruce and Kippax from 8:30 to 5 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Dr Jo Crookes (MBBS, FRACGP) – General Practitioner/Clinical Coordinator
Dr Jo Crookes is a well respected rural trained GP with extended skills, with many years of experience in both rural and city medicine. Dr Crookes believes in patient centered care and holistic evidence based healthcare. She sees herself as the advocate for her patients in an often confusing and convoluted ACT healthcare system. She takes a keen interest in education as a Clinical Skills Educator, and is the Medical Coordinator for Ochre Medical Centre Kippax. Dr Crookes consults in all areas of general medicine, and has a special interest in Mental health, lactation support and tongue tie management.

Sara Dubravs – Clinical Psychologist
Sara is a clinical psychologist who works with individual clients from 10 years of age to older adults, with a particular interest in working with adolescents and young adults. She is experienced in providing treatment for a range of psychological conditions, primarily mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and trauma and stressor related disorders.

Sara utilises a variety of evidence based psychological approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT). Sara’s therapeutic approach will be tailored to best suit the individual needs of the client.
