Introducing our new junior doctor…Dr Jack Mathers

Where are you from?
Hobart forever!

Where did you do your medical degree?

What made you decide on medicine as a career?
I needed a career where I could help people locally and on outreach, as well as use my logistical inclinations to hopefully serve people in a wider community.

What did you do before embarking on a medical pathway?
Straight from college, was going to be a pilot in the airforce before starting med.

What specialties interest you?
Ortho, sports med, plastics

What do you think you will enjoy and gain from your rural placement?
A decreased sense of urgency, understanding a stepwise approach to helping conditions over weeks, rather than in 8 minute OSCEs.

What are your impressions of Scottsdale?
Lovely little country town (Good ham)

Have you been there before?
Passed through on motorbike trips, never stayed for very long

What hobbies and interests do you have outside of your career?
